Here are some pix of the Putrajaya Regatta Event. Many of our friends from Singapore came over to make the simple event a success. The Putrajaya Organisers were very helpful and participants seems to have had a good time.  The weather held on, with fairly strong winds filling up the sails of the boats. The setting was great, nice clean lake with the Putrajaya buildings providing an excellent backdrop.

Kudos to Darthdude apploud for coordinating the event, and to the many more that helped to make the outing a good one.

*whew*

What a weekend...... I just got home after having dinner with some of the Singaporean skippers- I'll post results in a little while but I can say that they were well... balanced- Malaysia had a clean sweep of P1 P2 and P3 in the "Open" class with Jay de Bleu leading crewnet, sampen, Alex Sneesby, Wee and Michael whilst in the IOM class and well..... Malaysia got well and truly creamed with Singaporeans taking P1 (Jimmy Teo), P2 (Hashim Anwar) and P3 (Ervin Scully). ZZack was the lead Malaysian IOM home at P7, me following in P8 and poor ole Tazntaz in P11 not having finished a single heat thanks to a pretty darned catastrophic hardware failure in heat 1.

Well..... I think it is healthy- the Jaguh Kampung Syndrome was beginning to set in amongst us Malaysian r/c skippers (well, me anyway) so it was great to go up against some new faces... and even greater to get our heads handed to us so comprehensively..... at least we know where the curve is and how far behind it we are.

In hindsight I'm pretty happy with what we got- bearing in mind how new we are (I'm always saying early this year it was just ZZack and me huddling under a tree in Kelana Jaya while Jay's Seawind was gently gathering dust and drying out), the fact that we were campaigning Tazntaz's homebrew "Tazilah" hulls (itself based on the 20 year old Graham Bantock design "Nimbus") and sails against guys who have been sailing more'n 10 years and with better, more up-to-date gear (although this DOES NOT AT ALL detract from the skills of the respective skippers- you can have the best hardware in the world and still finish miles behind a a stock ETNZ if you don't know what you're doing in this game)..... we've come a long way indeed.... and we've still got a ways to go yet- but that's half the fun, ain't it?

All in it was a GREAT weekend and a huge boost for us Malaysian r/c skippers and my thanks go out to Putrajaya Corporation, Putrajaya Lake Club and Sail Putrajaya for laying on such a great show for us, Julian, David and Hock Choon for administering the event for us, Megat of Sail Putrajaya whose idea it was in the first place to include us in the Regatta (and who did an awful lot of the organisation), to ALL our new Singaporean friends for making it the event it was (and for dinner tonight) and to Tun Dr Mahathir for belanja-ing our tea break this afternoon. Oh.... and of course, to Ben and Zapper right here at malaysia-rc.com for our lovely sailboat board which was absolutely invaluable as a communication tool and for plugging everybody in. Thanks guys.... THIS is what an enthusiasts forum is all about!

WHAT a day..... WHAT a weekend..... I'll be grinning maniacally for WEEKS after this!

You lot have been warned......

 Grin
