It worked well! Esc operating temperature after 9.5 mins flight dropped from 80ºC to 42.5ºC! Current draw at 12V for a cooling fan is 0.1A. I'll be adding more to the motor and batts in the future! Grin

Here's more pics of the almost finished A109!

Haha, make sure they're Raybans! Hidden UV danger!! ;Dm

Thanks for the link! It sort of confirms my belief that up to 50% additional weight on this bird really is nothing if you are not into hardcore 3D. Or for any other bird for that matter, that's 3D capable out of the box, which almost every heli is, nowadays!

Right now, I'm considering between these 2 brands to give me the 15-20min times. The Maxamps 6S 10000mah ( 1.4kg ) at abt RM1.3K or 2 of our very own 6S 3600mah VXR ( 1.12kg ) lipos in parallel at RM550 ea. How many Cs really doesn't matter much at this capacity range.

i guess putting the batt parallel is a good choice as weight is at its limit.....

Not really so keen on parallel setups but I'm an advocate for bigger capacity batts and not many manufacturers are coming out with higher than 5000mah lipos!

The power excesses of most 3D machines these days has really given us 'normal' modellers, more power than is needed. So I figured stretching it and slapping on a big nice scale body shouldn't be too much for the stock powertrain to handle! So weight won't really be at the limit. Power to weight ratio is right there amongst other 60 sized scale helis! dringking

Hi Jeff, long time no see! Thanks! Recognise your ex Trex600 inside there?? Smiley

So far the machine is doing very well! Grin Consistent 8.5mins flights everytime! The batts and motor does get a bit hot inside because of inadequate airflow. Have to add some more cooling fans later.

Any thoughts on going back to bigger electrics?
